  • Abstract
In this paper I will be exploring the potential of class-based synchronous computer mediated communication CmC to support the development of spoken language amongst Saudi students learning English as a second language. Among the significant discussions in ELT is the interactive educational software. The correlation between these technological achievements and the production of oral language is interesting because the former can be employed to enhance the later. CmC is providing unprecedented opportunities for more personal creativity. Therefore, this paper investigates the nature of the huge impact which CmC is making on the development of oral proficiency. For this paper, there are two primary aims: First, to ascertain the critical aspects of speaking skill. Second, is to shine new light on the usability of CmC from a linguistic perspective. As part of the enquiry I will also consider whether English SCmC is more similar to spoken or written discourse.
