Abstract
The paper discusses recent advances in the finite difference time domain method employing macromodels. New techniques for creating irregularly shaped macromodels, grouping of macromodels and advanced macromodel cloning are introduced. The last technique is particularly important for efficient analysis of the structures based on Photonic Crystals (PhC). The method allows one to shorten considerably the preprocessing time, the RAM usage and also, in same cases, the iterating speed of the FDTD algorithm. With the new macromodel cloning scheme it is possible to simulate efficiently up to many thousands of macromodels.
