Abstract :
This paper presents the evolution of a radar concept based on a collaborative research programme carried out between Thales Sensors Limited and QinetiQ. The paper describes the rationale behind the radar concept, the development of the low cost aspects of phased array engineering, the associated waveform development and the final radar characteristics. One of the main points to emerge from this programme is the unusually fast rate at which this type of radar can be developed, provided it is based on a solid core of research and associated development expertise.
