Abstract :
The aim of this colloquium was to enable those developing or implementing technology-based systems to support the remote delivery of health and care services to learn of ongoing developments and to consider some of the issues affecting the successful introduction and use of technology in this field. The following topics were dealt with: an evaluation of service delivery techniques, used to support disabled people and their local helpers, in their use of assistive technologies, with particular focus on systems designed to assist independent living; using technology to support the provision of care services; low-cost telecare using a network-borne telemetry platform; EASYTEX-improving the quality of life for the disabled and the elderly; ACTION (Assisting Carers using Telematic Interventions to meet Older persons´ Needs); supporting the remote delivery of health-care through the re-engineering of the health-care enterprise; using Internet technology to refer patients to consultants; a research study into the impact of telemedicine on rural GP practices; and emerging technologies
