Abstract
One of the most important problems in modern ground penetrating radar design is creating ultra wide band (UWB) antennas for short sounding electromagnetic pulses (SP) of radiation. Important requirements for antennas of this kind are the elimination of "ringing" and efficiency. Promising UWB/SP radiators, which satisfy these conditions have been proposed by Harmuth. These radiators are named large current radiators (LCRs) because it is possible to create a large amplitude current in the radiating element with relatively small driving voltage. The LCR is inherently a non-resonating radiator. Principally the LCR is a segment of a line conductor through which a current pulse of short duration but large amplitude is driven. The results of development of LCR design, which combine various positive properties, are given.
