Abstract :
The authors develop an aperture-coupled U-slotted patch antenna by means of discovering the different reactive natures between a concentrated and a distributed excitation to the U-slotted patch. The simulated and measured curves of both the VSWR responses and impedance loci on a Smith chart are compared: the bandwidths for VSWR/spl les/2:1 are 48.35% [10.60-17.37 GHz] in simulation and 41.27% [10.52-15.99 GHz] in experiment. A simulated curve of antenna gain is shown with a maximum 9.57 dB at 13.88 GHz and a -3 dB bandwidth of 30.09% [12.00-16.25 GHz]. The co-polar and cross-polar radiation patterns in the E-plane and H-plane are given.
