Abstract :
In the context of wireless mobile communication systems, we address the problem of adjusting the power levels of the mobiles and/or base stations through simple and efficient algorithms that lead to an acceptable interference environment. We provide the key considerations that motivate the analytical work, along with an exposition of the basic algorithm. We subsequently study the effect of mobility on the ability of the power control algorithm to track the desirable signal-to-interference ratio. By means of simulation, we examine the behaviour of power control in a set-up that realistically incorporates both mobility and two different fading models. Our findings indicate that, within the typical range of system parameters, the power control algorithm performs quite satisfactorily
