Abstract
In this paper a new call handling technique is proposed to allow all the calls served by a base station to effectively take advantage of the overlapping coverage in cellular environments. In order to overcome some limitations originating from the utilisation of traditional techniques, two new concepts, reserve channels and protection threshold are introduced. The consequence of the adoption of these new features on the cellular system working behaviour is evaluated. In particular, system performance is observed when varying the protection threshold value to optimise the algorithm with respect to this parameter, under different traffic conditions
