  • Abstract
Summary form only given. Spread spectrum activities in Europe are being dominated by a single topic. This is the investigation of the potential of code division multiple access (CDMA) for third generation mobile systems (TGMS). This activity started with the CODIT project within the RACE programme and has continued in universities and research centres throughout Europe. This trend is still continuing with some very interesting results. The author first addresses the requirements for TGMS in detail. Then the technical aspects of the CODIT air interface are given and the degree to which it meets the requirements of TGMS are discussed. Finally the hybrid techniques are surveyed and compared
