  • Abstract
RC tree approximation is a computationally simple method for calculating the signal delay of MOS circuits with several states of fanout. The author derives a formal solution of RC tree equations. Based on this solution, it is shown that even though waveforms found using RC tree approximation are inaccurate, delays are exact. The author derives the dependence of the delays on input waveforms and initial conditions, and he introduces criteria for estimating the accuracy of single-time-constant waveform approximation
