Abstract
The recent research progress of project portfolio decision-making (PPDM) is reviewed, and the strengths and weaknesses of current approaches are discussed. Different research issues and methods are summarized into one general framework. To tackle the limitations and shortcomings of existing work, an ecology-based framework is proposed by applying ecology theories and methods into project portfolio decision-making. By analyzing the ecological-similar attributes of project portfolio decision-making, the feasibility of utilization of ecology theories and methods into project portfolio decision-making is investigated. Moreover, comparisons are made between the general framework and ecology-based framework. Detailed discussions on possible research issues and methods using ecology-based concepts for project portfolio decision-making are presented.
