Abstract
The authors demonstrate the potential of using direct modulation as a convenient, practical way to reduce interference-induced penalties in optical communication networks. No extra equipment or complexity is introduced into the network. However, implementation of this method requires careful dispersion optimization. Extending the proposed method to bit rates higher than 1 Gb/s would require the development of lasers having even shorter time constants
