Abstract
In this overview, it is noted that needs for higher productivity, more compact coils with higher operating temperatures, and better liability protection are causing the coil winding industry to move rapidly into thermoplastic coil forms and encapsulations. The authors examine the global trends in thermoplastic materials and manufacturing and the implications for the future as seen from the material supplier viewpoint. Issues discussed are product liability, the use of flame-retardant plastics, and the implications of the electronic car
