Abstract :
Hypoglycemic and Hypolipidemic activity of saponins in cinnamon on diabetic mice was studied. Methods: The diabetic mice were established by alloxan. Then the living diabetic mice were divided into six groups. Among them, three groups were treated with cinnamon total saponins 100, 200, 400mg/kg.bw by ig adminstration, and one group was given Xiaoke Pill 300mg/kg.bw by ig adminstration as positive control, and another two groups were given normal saline as the normal control group and the diabetic model control group. After 14 days of treatment, the blood glucose, the SOD activity, serum triglyceride and cholesterol content of each group were detected. Results: Compared with the diabetic model control group, total saponins in cinnamon 200 and 400mg/kg.bw could significantly decrease the blood glucose in diabetic mice(P<;0.01). All positive control drug 300mg/kg.bw, Cinnamon saponins 100,200 and 400 mg/kg.bw could improve SOD activity. Compared with normal control group, there were no significant differences (P<;0.05). Positive control drug 300mg/kg.bw, cinnamon saponins 100,200 and 400mg/kg.bw could significantly decrease the total cholesterol and triglyceride content in diabetic mice blood serum(P<;0.01). Compared with positive control group, the total cholesterol decreasing ability of cinnamon saponins 200 and 400mg/kg.bw had no significant differences(P<;0.05). Conclusions: cinnamon total saponins had significant effects on hypoglycemic and hypolipidemic action in diabetic mice induced by alloxan. The effect of high dose group (400mg/kg.bw) was best. There was no significant difference between cinnamon saponins 200 and 400mg/kg.bw(P<;0.05). Consequently, cinnamon saponins 200mg/kg.bw was the best effect group according to saving resources and economic aspect.
