Abstract :
In this paper we propose a concrete methodology for the creation of IN based multimedia services over an integrated IN/B-ISDN platform. Two running service examples are used to demonstrate the flexibility of the proposed service creation methodology: a Video on Demand (VoD) service developed from scratch and a Broadband Video Conferencing Service (B-VC) service based on an existing development originally targeted for a TCP/IP network platform. Based on the service prose description, a definition of the functional architecture is carried out which -results in the specification of a Broadband Service Control Function (B-SCF) that accomodates the requirements of novel multimedia services, including the coordination of different calls in a session as well as the call/connection separation. The paper presents alternatives for the distribution of the service logic in the IN/B-ISDN network elements and proceeds with the specification of the messages flows across interfaces. A formal description of the service is produced in SDL which is transformed into Service Logic Code and simulated with a Service Creation and Simulation Environment
