Abstract :
This paper presents two-layer object-oriented analysis-synthesis coding that makes the amount of transmitted data flexible and scalable at each layer. Object-oriented analysis-synthesis coding that estimates motion, shape, and color parameters for each object is considered as one of promising candidates for the MPEG-4 standard. The parameters are obtained through image analysis and the proposed two-layer coding algorithm is based on the object-oriented analysis-synthesis coding method. In this method, shape parameters are decomposed into two parts with a criterion of maximum area detection, by which the amount of data for shape parameters and the other parameters can be divided into two levels of priority. The proposed two-layer method shows the possibility of adaptation of MPEG-4 to asynchronous transfer mode (ATM) networks. Simulation results in terms of the bit rate and the peak signal to noise ratio (PSNR) show the functionality of the proposed two-layer coding method
