Abstract
There have been many proposals in the area of increasing the call carrying capacity. Some of them are directed retry, reuse partitioning and channel borrowing. Here, the capacity of each is derived for a GSM system, and they are compared with each other. In general, the capacity increase of each technique is dependent on system-specific parameters. Those techniques achieve moderate capacity increase in the area of 30-50%, so they represent an intermediate solution before cell splitting or microcells
