Abstract
In cooperation with the Hochfeld-Magnetlabor Dresden (HLD) of the Forschungszentrum Dresden-Rossendorf (FZD) in Dresden, Germany, Rheinmetall Waffe Munition GmbH realized a Pulsed Power Facility (PPF) to generate pulsed high magnetic fields up to 100 T by inductive loads. For a dual-coil system, two types of capacitor bank modules have been designed: fifteen 2.88 MJ modules and four 1.44 MJ modules. A total storable energy up to 49 MJ is available. The resulting output current pulses change in shape, amplitude and duration by varying either charging voltages, the number of modules or crowbar resistors. After the description of the system configuration with different module types and system settings, the design of both types of modules is examined. That includes safety functions and controlling. Different operation modes of the PPF are shown.
