Abstract
Increasing reliance on GNSS for applications that are critical from both human safety and economic points of view implies a need to ensure local GNSS service and performance quality. Quality of service and performance is not only depending on the system quality but also local effects like interference and multipath play a significant role. There is growing awareness of the importance to monitor not only the GNSS system itself, but also the spectrum. At reference station locations, this is already done with the aim to improve the quality of the system (i.e the source of the signal in space). However, today there are only a few initiatives to monitor the GNSS spectrum across broad geographical areas. This paper describes the economic potential and the feasibility of such a monitoring network to detect and localize interference sources on a continuous basis and in realtime.
