Abstract
New clinker coolers for cement plants are today always of the grate type. In addition to these new installations there are also many older kilns with planetary coolers that are being upgraded with grate coolers. This paper sets out to explain the importance of choosing the right drive solution for the cooler fans and grate drives. Comparisons of fixed speed and variable speed drives show the decisive points and where possibilities for cost-efficient solutions lie.
