Abstract :
Liposomes have a wide variety of applications in Biomedical Engineering, such as in vaccines, genetic engineering, anti-cancer drugs and drug controlled release systems. Traditional preparation methods produce liposomes with a wide size distribution and elaborate processes are needed to produce narrow size distributions. The research presented here, attempts to improve the traditional preparation methods for liposomes using a nano-liposome preparation method that uses ultrasonic extrusion. Ultrasonic extrusion is performed here with a transducer device at the frequency of 135 kHz. Nano-liposomes can be prepared through extrusion in a continuous process where the nano-liposomes can be collected as a suspension without the use of any surfactants.
