Abstract :
Power system protection device testing requires a wide spectrum of test procedures. The classical division into routine testing and type testing is preserved. In addition to the tests required by national and international regulations, the entire range of communication and protection functions of protection devices needs to be tested as part of the software type testing procedure. The application of modern computer technology in connection with transients programs is the basis for the performance of complex test procedures. Analysis systems support the test engineer and thereby reduce the effort in terms of staff skill and time. At the same time, the testing depth and quality is enhanced and the system response of the protection device is made transparent to the manufacturer and to the user. Cost-effective yet high-quality testing of protection devices is now practically impossible without the application of system modelling programs
