Abstract :
Modern aerospace platforms require high bandwidth interconnects between systems. Fiber optic interconnects can provide this bandwidth with a reasonable weight of cabling and interconnect. Military applications additionally require a maintained separation between data channels based on their security level. Physical cable separation and encryption techniques are two approaches that supply this necessary separation. Wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) technology has the potential to provide another method for channel separation while also providing the high bandwidth / low weight of fiber optics.
