Abstract
OPNET environment is a powerful tool for telecommunication simulations. In a project, results of which are presented here, OPNET was used to build models of selected components of MERCoNe architecture: a WLAN access point that is capable of reporting the status of the radio interface and a triggering engine that collects the reports and can distribute them further. In this article we describe how this was achieved. We present also results from some of the tests of the MERCoNe model: validation of the model with real trial results and simulations of scenarios that were not tried in practice. Finally, we point out problems that have to be faced when results from realistic simulations are compared to trial results.
