Abstract :
This work relates to the solution of reactive power problem in a line-commutated HVDC link. A series injection strategy has been formulated and the effects have been simulated indicating a significant reduction in reactive power consumption of the link. This would reduce the weight and volume of the capacitance required which is usually employed in such links thereby reducing the overall weight and volume of the converter terminal which has to be supported by a platform in the case of offshore wind power. This reduction would reduce the cost as well as improve the reliability of such a converter terminal.
