Abstract
This paper compares the types of Electrical Area Classification drawings that have been prepared for chemical and petroleum processes and highlight the differences and, in particular, the application variations of NFPA 497A and APIRP500. It discusses the complexities in applying these standards. Finally, it presents a technique that meets OSHA Process Safety Management requirements and has other significant advantages
