Abstract
The overall effectiveness of computer-based systems is greatly influenced by decisions made during the early stages of design. This paper examines design decision support for one such decision, the allocation of system functions to hardware versus software implementation. A method is described that uses fuzzy logic to capture imprecise and uncertain requirements and the general linear model to determine candidate allocations. An example illustrates the approach.
