Abstract :
This paper presents an approach to integrate two major aspects of process control engineering during online operation: plant and process supervision on one side as well as process control on the other side. For both tasks modular concepts are discussed. These concepts can be realized in function block technique which is an accepted software concept for distributed control systems used in large process plants. It is examined how sophisticated process control functions with the knowledge of additional information-collected from plant and process supervision-can react in the case of abnormal process situations to keep the process running and stable. In this context, a control structure is described using validation information indicating faulty or questionable process information. Furthermore, this paper describes how to use hierarchical process control functions
