Abstract :
Summary form only given. The Hall effect has, for several years, been considered an important player in the plasma opening switch, particularly in lower density regimes, such as exist just prior to opening. Recent experiments and MHD simulations, both performed at NRL, have suggested that the Hall effect has an important influence even during the higher density conduction phase. To develop a better understanding of the role of the Hall effect in the POS, we have developed and implemented a new Hall effect algorithm for Mach2, a two-dimensional MHD code.
