Abstract :
This paper presents a new methodology for calculating the end-to-end (E2E) impact on video quality of multiple stages of degradation across a multihop network. Using this methodology, the individual degradations of each stage of compression and transmission loss need only be known in order to calculate the overall E2E impact on video quality. A theoretical derivation of the methodology is presented, and this is initially verified by 90 experiments. This methodology is a powerful new tool for evaluating the impact of complex network scenarios on new services such as mobile video and user-generated content.
