  • Abstract
There is a perception in the UK that the process of obtaining Railtrack safety approval is too expensive, too time-consuming, too subjective and “over the top” for minor modifications to signalling equipment. This paper represents the author´s personal views as to why the above claims are largely true. It discusses the process-related issues, rather than the technical safety issues
