  • Abstract
Wireless Sensor Networking (WSNing) is drawing the attention of both scientific and industrial communities as it represents a low cost and effective approach to achieve intelligent environments. Recently, IEEE 802.15.4a standard showed IR-UWB technology to be an efficient candidate for PHY layer, bringing the additional benefit of a localization capability. This paper deals with a localization scheme based on an innovative Time of Arrival ranging procedure, specifically designed for UWB WSNs in which several mobile nodes interact with a fixed infrastructure. Achieved results point out the suitability of the proposed approach for a couple of realistic scenarios, despite the fact the ranging accuracy is reduced by the influence of short and long term fading effects.
