Abstract :
A time-efficient, flexible semianalytical method for evaluating the symbol error probability (SEP) of digital modulations is presented. To show the validity and usefulness of the method, SEPs of 8-ary PSK (phase shift keying) and 16-ary QAM (quadrature amplitude modulation) transmissions, are evaluated considering the effects of AM/AM and AM/PM conversions of a TWTA (traveling wave tube amplifier). The effect of an RF linearizer has also been studied. It is shown that, using the proposed method, SEPs as small as 10-9 can be calculated. Transmission of 20 K and 32 K symbols is sufficient to compute SEPs of 10-5 and 10-9, respectively
