Abstract
In this paper we present a UWB channel measurement campaign in the 2 - 10 GHz band to assess if significant improvements can be obtained by the adoption of multiple antennas in UWB systems. To this aim, an analysis of spatial diversity with arrays of a variety of representative UWB antennas is presented with emphasis on the differences between virtual and real compact arrays, including mutual coupling effects. The impact of interelement spacing and signal bandwidth on spatial diversity is also discussed.
