Abstract :
A set of knowledge-based improvements intended to allow faster computation of the node connectivity factor (NCF), a network survivability metric, is presented. The knowledge-based methodology uses techniques ranging from simple table look-ups to the recognition of recurring node loss sequences during the decomposition process. The computational process is described, and the savings, both in memory and time, inherent in this knowledge-based approach are demonstrated for a number of sample networks
