Abstract :
Though post-processing is generally performed in JPEG/MPEG decoders to eliminate the blocking effect appeared in decoded images, few encoders will take care of it during compression. In this paper, we propose to take the post-processing stage into account when encoding an image and make use of it to improve the quality of the reconstructed images both subjectively and objectively. An example is also provided to show how this idea works successfully when classical low-pass filtering is exploited in the post-processing stage
