Title :
PerEL 2011: 7th IEEE International Workshop on PervasivE Learning, Life, and Leisure - committees and welcome
Abstract :
The 7th IEEE International Workshop on PervasivE Learning, Life, and Leisure (PerEL 2011) is the successor of six previous workshops at IEEE PerCom, extending the scope from learning to related fields like entertainment and assistive systems. The workshop addresses the issues of pervasive computing in combination with new forms and possibilities of learning, life, and leisure. Highly mobile, context-aware, and pro-active services provide significant benefit to the users — in terms of simplicity, comfort, transparency, and finally quality of our everyday activities. The workshop aims at an examination of future visions in these areas and the directions that are emerging. This year, we can identify three major topics of the workshop papers: contextawareness in teaching and learning, personalization of entertainment systems, and large-scale pervasive computing in public places. We received a total of 12 submissions for PerEL 2011. The international Program Committee selected 6 papers for publication. Moreover, we are proud to present an invited contribution on how to make use of pervasive computing for enriching STEM education. Finally, PerEL 2011 will include a session on Pervasive Design originating from the corresponding PerCom workshop. We´d like to thank all authors for carefully preparing the results of their work submitted to PerEL 2011, again leading to an interesting and high-quality workshop program. Moreover, we are deeply grateful to the PerEL Program Committee for their efforts in quickly and thoroughly evaluating the submissions. Finally, special thanks go to the PerCom workshop chairs, who handled all issues in a professional manner.
