Abstract :
A 16-bit ALU (arithmetic logic unit) design is presented which was designed using ASPECT standard cells and boasts an operating frequency of 142 MHz. The ALU is expandable, with a full carry lookahead capability that allows implementation of a 100-MIPS (million-instruction-per-second) 64-bit system. The methodology used to implement the design efficiently maximizes performance using critical path analysis and automatic modification along this path to reach desired performance goals
