Abstract :
This paper present a novel concept for network management that does not depend on specific protocols and network structures named Service Defined Network (SvDN). The behavior of a network system is implicitly defined by a service, that is usually written as specification documents. The service originally does not depend on the physical structure of managing network system, but in current network system the network administrator manually design configurations to achieve the service. On such network systems, it is difficult to change physical structure without modifying the configurations once the system is built. SvDN resolve such problems by defining the global model of a service. To achieve the management with SvDN, we present SvDN architecture for typical network systems that are consist of usual managed switches. Next, we design several service models for the layer-2 network, and implement the system to manage networks using a NETCONF protocol. Furthermore, we introduce some use case of SvDN.
