Abstract
This paper considers energy-efficient target tracking using cluster-based wireless sensor networks. Target tracking is vulnerable to temporary loss of the target due to reasons such as node failure, prediction error or sudden change in target trajectory. For a credible and reliable target tracking solution that can be used in mission critical situations, foolproof recovery mechanisms are needed. This paper proposes a recovery mechanism to track lost targets in clustered wireless sensor networks. The recovery mechanism does not rely on a particular prediction approach and can be used with any prediction mechanism. The recovery mechanism is capable of recovering the lost trajectory of the target in several scenarios. The time taken to recover the target has been measured using the Castalia simulation framework of OMNET++.
