Abstract :
An adaptive principal component extraction algorithm (APEX) is presented based on principal component analysis (PCA), and a close relationship between the network model of the algorithm and statistical pattern recognition is revealed. Finally, the APEX algorithm is applied to the face database by Olivetti research laboratory (ORL), for face feature extraction. Simulation results demonstrate that it is a valid feature extraction method for face recognition
