Abstract
In the design of electrical or electronic equipment, conflicts often occur when trying to satisfy different requirements. A particularly important example of this is when trying to design an equipment that is safe and at the same time meets a particular set of EMC requirements. It is essential that designers are aware of the ways in which equipment may become less safe when certain EMC measures are employed. This paper raises this awareness by looking at the use of filters, suppression devices and shielding and their possible impact on safety performance
