Abstract

Before beginning wired city projects it is necessary to have some understanding of the sociological and technological underpinning of the concept. A review of the more significant of these underpinnings is presented, including the early and modern wired city concepts and pertinent telecommunication theorems and technologies. Functional specifications for an exploratory model of a wired city are presented. The aim is to provide social and telecommunication planners, engineers, and researchers with an integrated interdisciplinary overview of current developments in the wired city concept.
