Abstract :
In this paper, we give an overview of the recent progress made on the efficient generation and sensitive detection of THz waves based on parametric processes such as parametric oscillation, parametric generation, difference-frequency generation, frequency upconversion, and/or optical rectification. We discuss the pros and cons of each approach. Furthermore, we describe some current efforts on power scaling of THz pulses and its fundamental limits. Following such a comprehensive review, we also highlight the accomplishments made in terms of the applications of the THz waves in spectroscopy and imaging
