Abstract
In the present paper we examine the different digital pulse modulation schemes: pulse position modulation (PPM), differential pulse-position modulation (DPPM) and the digital pulse interval modulation (DPIM) used for Infrared wireless communication systems using intensity modulation and direct detection. These schemes have been compared in terms of transmission capacity, optical power and their performance in terms of error probability. We have also studied the effect of multipath intersymbol interference (ISI) on the system
