Abstract
A new zero-current switching (ZCS) pulse-width modulated (PWM) boost converter is discussed in the paper. The converter´s main power switch can operate with ZCS due to an active auxiliary circuit that diverts current away from the switch just before it is turned off. The circuit allows the converter to operate with ZCS without the disadvantages typically found in other previously proposed ZCS PWM converters such as increased switch stresses and excessive circulating current. In the paper, a procedure for the design of the converter is presented and demonstrated with an example. The feasibility of the converter is confirmed with results obtained from a 50 kHz, 1 kW experimental prototype
