Abstract
A model of the basal ganglia (BG) is derived from a computational viewpoint. It is explained how anatomical and physiological features of BG can be understood in terms of the procedure for drive. The principles for the procedure is proposed, including an algorithm to calculate the desirability of a command. Several predictions are derived from the model. EEG data are discussed as corroborating evidences of the model, and a computer simulation of EEG is considered
