Abstract :
The aim of the paper is to present some basic rules to compare communication subsystems used in practice. The proposed procedures-which can be treated as normalisation of practical approaches-may be incorporated in design processes using expert systems to support the design of communication subsystems of distributed, corporate computer systems. Attention is given to formalise the simplest design task, i.e., matching the corporate network communication subsystem to the requirements of each end-user system. The comparison of available and required subsystems is described using a predefined set of features at selected levels of granulation and detail
