Abstract
Despite the existing structures which discourage TQM (total quality management) the Mechanical Engineering Division at Alfred University has begun to implement some TQM practices and has plans to continue to expand its dedication to being quality-driven, customer oriented, marked by teamwork, and avid about improvement. Since the Mechanical Engineering Division began practicing TQM principles in 1989, without calling them TQM at the time, total enrollment has increased significantly with large gains in students retained in the program
