Abstract
The body of tank-like climbing robot is prone to bend under the continuate action of the preload of treads and the weight of the robot. Increasing the thickness of the body can reduce the bending, but it will also increase the weight of robot, which make against the weight reduction. The elytra of beetles have excellent mechanical properties. In this paper, the unique shape of the elytra of the beetles is extracted and a bionic body for tank-like climbing robot is designed. With the same thickness of the body, the bionic body can reduce the deformation and increase the strength at the same time.
